Perimeter = 2 x (Length + Width) For our example: Perimeter = 2 x (10 ft + 2 ft) = 24 feet

  1. Multiply the perimeter by the height to get the surface area of the four sides:

Surface Area = Perimeter x Height = 24 feet x 1 foot = 24 square feet

  1. Calculate the area of the two duct ends by multiplying length by width:

End 1 Area = Length x Width = 10 ft x 2 ft = 20 square feet

  1. Add the areas of the sides and ends to get the total surface area:

Total Surface Area = Sides Area + 2 x End Areas = 24 sq ft + 2 x 20 sq ft = 64 square feet.
